Stairlifts have been around for decades. In homes where one or more residents aren’t very mobile, you’ll often see an electric stairlift at the bottom of the stairs.

The stairlift as we know it today was only introduced in 1923. It was initially created by a man called C.C Crispin who invented it for his friend who was paralyzed. His idea caught on when he suddenly realised that his invention helped thousands of people.

He went on and founded the inclinator company of America. It’s still in operation today, and it continues to provide use to people all over the world who are limited in their mobility.

Through the years, there has been great advancements made in the way these stairlifts work thanks to technology and medicine.

Here are some of the major advancements made though:

1. The chairs have been made smaller and more compact, so that they make use of the space that’s available in some smaller houses.

2. The chairs are a lot safer and easier for users to get in and out of.

3. Most stairlift companies install their lifts using a camera system so that it’s the best fit it can possibly be.

4. The affordable stairlifts  have a constant charge at any point along the rail.

5. If the stairlift is not going to be used for a long duration of time, it can be easily unmounted and stored. This will save valuable space when no in use.

6. They are now manufactured so that they can be ergonomically correct, and be adjusted to the individuals height etc.

7. A wider variety of colours are now being produced to lend to the aesthetics.
