Is Your Toothache Serious?

Toothaches come and go, and they aren’t always a sign of something more serious, however it is very important to know exactly when your toothache should be treated more seriously. This short guide will talk more about these warning signs and hopefully help you the next time you if your toothache becomes more serious.

Persistent pain

The first and number one sign that you should seek medical attention is when your toothache lasts for more than a few days. You only get one set of teeth in your adult life, so it is important to visit a doctor or dentist as soon possible, no matter how trivial you feel the pain may be. Ongoing pain is often a sign of cavities or other issues.

Sensitive teeth

Sensitivity is another relatively normal condition that can be confused with a toothache. Generally speaking sensitivity occurs when you eat or drink things that are either very hot or very cold. If you don’t normally suffer from extreme sensitivity, it would definitely pay to keep an eye on the problem and speak to your dentist too. Either way you cannot lose, you will identify one problem or another!

Strong pain

It is relatively normal to have toothaches, but not all of them are serious. A high level of pain can be a key sign that your toothache is more serious than you first thought, but this is not always the case. The best thing to do is to monitor the pain and if it gets worse you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Painful eating

Normal eating, should of course be as painless as possible and rather enjoyable. If it becomes painful in the teeth or jaw when you eat, you should keep an eye on the problem. This is especially the case if this lasts for a long period of time.

Other things to look out for

Headaches and fevers can be a sign of a toothache gone bad and may even be a much more serious problem with your teeth, that may even lead to the removal of a tooth! As always it is of utmost importance to keep an eye on these symptoms and seek help if they persist or get worse.
